Update 6/14: MyTaproot shut down all services on May 31st, 2022. The Nanchang Project continues to work towards migrating all of the parents in MyTaproot to Help For Family Reunion (HFFR), which also does free matching. We will post more updates as we finalize these plans, so please follow us on Facebook or Instagram. In the meantime, we recommend you ensure you have a copy of your STR DNA report from LabCorp or other lab you used so you may upload it to additional databases. Furthermore, we are completing the tedious process of offering all families tested through MyTaproot the option to be retested with 23mofang, a Chinese autosomal (SNP) company, and uploaded to GEDmatch. If you are an adoptee who has done 23andMe, AncestryDNA, MyHeritage, or FamilyTreeDNA, you should also download your raw data file and upload it to GEDmatch, for free, for the opportunity to match one of these birth families. As we finish processing their data, this spreadsheet will be updated to reflect which database has each family’s DNA. We thank you for your continued patience and trust while we slowly work through all of our birth family contacts.
The following list includes birth families tested by Nanchang Project. To date, Nanchang Project has assisted in 50 DNA matches — the majority of which occurred prior to this spreadsheet’s creation, so they are not displayed below.

How to match with these families:
DNA testing is a must to confirm a biological relationship. Simply submit your DNA to the databases listed in the spreadsheet. Our birth relatives are currently in GEDmatch and Help For Family Reunion (HFFR). You can find information about these databases on our DNA Testing page. On our Resources page, we have a GEDmatch guide that walks you through interpreting your results as well as links with instructions for how to download your raw data for upload to other autosomal (SNP) databases. All new birth families tested with Nanchang Project will be added to GEDmatch.
Know a potential birth relative who needs to be DNA tested?
Please contact us and one of our volunteers can mail a free Chinese-based DNA test to any place in China. We can get you and the birth family a result within 2 weeks! All matches made through Nanchang Project have always been free and will continue to be. We believe finances should never prevent a reunion. Reach out to us to schedule a DNA kit to be sent to your Chinese contact.
