We’re Heading to Guangxi!

Nanchang Project Winter 2025-26 Trip

Join Nanchang Project's Winter Search Trip to Guangxi!

The Nanchang Project is returning to China this winter for a special search trip in Guangxi Autonomous Region. We are currently accepting applications from Guangxi adoptees who are interested in joining us as Adoptee Ambassadors. Together, we will search on behalf of Guangxi adoptees to reconnect them with their birth families. During our 2024 Spring Search Trip to Hunan, we traveled with two Hunan Adoptee Ambassadors (one of whom reunited with her birth family), visited 5 cities, distributed search posters for over 250 Hunan adoptees, and conducted DNA tests on more than 25 birth families.

This year, we are looking to select 2-3 Guangxi Adoptee Ambassadors from different cities to accompany the Nanchang Project team. Each Ambassador will join us for a 3 or 4 day search in the area where they were found.

The trip is tentatively scheduled for 2 weeks within the dates of December 28, 2025 - January 17, 2026. Exact travel dates and cities to be visited are undetermined at this time. Adoptees selected as Ambassadors can choose to join us for the days of their designated city or extend their journey to support fellow Ambassadors in other locations on our itinerary. Ambassadors are also welcome to bring a companion for additional support.

During the trip, we will arrange and cover the following in-China expenses for selected Adoptee Ambassadors on the days they travel with us. However, to help Nanchang Project offset the charity’s costs and support the logistics of your travel, we are requiring a contribution (amount to be shared later).

  • Hotel accommodations

  • Meals shared as a group

  • Search posters (customized with your details)

  • Searcher and guide fees

  • Transportation within China, including transfers to/from Chinese airports (if your flight aligns with our team's travel schedule)

Please note, all other trip-related expenses—such as international flights, passport/visa fees, souvenirs—will be the responsibility of the Ambassadors.

Due to the emotional nature of these trips, Adoptee Ambassadors must be 18 years or older at the time of travel.

After the application deadline, we will carefully review all submissions and create the trip itinerary based on the selected Ambassadors’ responses and travel availability.

DEADLINE: May 30, 2025 is the last day to apply for a Guangxi Adoptee Ambassador spot on our trip.

How to Apply:

  1. Please have copies/images of your Certificate of Abandonment available to upload with your application.

  2. Tap the following “Apply Now” button and complete the Guangxi Adoptee Ambassador Application through Google Forms.

  3. We will contact all applicants in June 2025 after reviewing all submissions.

The information submitted with this Form will strictly be used for planning, searching, and matching purposes as pertaining to Nanchang Project's efforts in family reunion for Chinese adoptees. We understand your information is sensitive and we will treat it with genuine care, as if it were our own. Only Nanchang Project official volunteers (Chinese adoptees and adoptive parents) on the Guangxi Search Trip planning committee will have access to your submitted information.

Guangxi Search Posters:

As we did for last year's Hunan trip, we have opened sign-ups for adoptees from anywhere in Guangxi of any age to register their information for our Guangxi-wide Posters, which we will share online and have physical copies of on hand during our search. If our finalized itinerary includes a stop in the city you were reportedly found in, you will have the option to be included on our City-specific Posters—of which hundreds of copies will be dispersed to locals in person. We will not know our itinerary until July or August. See info graphic below for additional details. Adoptees who join our flyers will have the opportunity to become a member of a private group chat only for Guangxi participants—where we share more frequent in-China updates as they happen throughout the search!

NOTE: Many children were sent to orphanages in Nanning, the capital of Guangxi, for their adoption. If you were adopted from Nanning, it is in your best interest to check your abandonment/adoption documents to verify if you were actually “found” in Nanning or originated outside of this major city. Trip and group poster arrangements are made based on where adoptees are reportedly FOUND, not adopted from.

What You Need:

  • Earliest photo(s) of adoptee

  • Current photo of adoptee

  • Family photo (optional)

Register now for our group posters; the deadline is October 1, 2025.

Funding & Trip Costs:

Our work is made possible entirely through individual contributions, with donations primarily coming from Chinese adoptees and their families. For this trip, we anticipate having up to three Nanchang Project team members traveling, as well as hiring two local Search Partners to assist with guiding and translating during the search process. At this time, we are planning to have a Chinese social media influencer accompany us too. He helped us last year in Hunan and is planning to travel again with us to help Guangxi adoptees. Please note, his schedule may change, but as of right now, he is planning to attend. The cumulative costs for our 2024 Hunan search trip were approximately $10,000 USD, and we expect the expenses for our upcoming Guangxi trip to be higher due to additional Adoptee Ambassadors and helpers traveling this year + the social media influencer. We will again offer a free DNA test to ANY birth family located during and after this search trip.

To help offset the costs of this search and logistics, we will be requiring contributions from Guangxi participants and hosting several fundraisers in the coming months. Thank you so much for your consideration and support! We can accept donations through these methods:

  1. Zelle - Send to hello@nanchangproject.com (Zelle does not charge us any fees to receive your contribution)

  2. Venmo - Send to @NanchangProject (Venmo charges us the lowest fees after Zelle)
