Our volunteer Michael Zhu may share his name with our Search Partner Michael Zhu, but his work with the Nanchang Project is singular. A dedicated member of the Nanchang Project team and the current Team Lead for Fundraising, Partnerships, and Outreach (FPO), Michael’s journey with us is deeply rooted in his desire to give back to his community and connect with his heritage.
His passion for meaningful work is matched by his love for challenges and creativity—whether he’s pushing himself through a tough bouldering route, capturing a moment through photography, or diving into a good book— reflecting the qualities that he brings to his role at NCPT.
In this post, Michael shares more about his journey, his work with Nanchang Project, and what keeps him motivated to contribute to the organization’s mission. Whether you’re curious about the impact of his work or just want to get to know the person behind the projects, we’re excited to give you a closer look at Michael's journey.

What is your current role with Nanchang Project?
Team Lead for Fundraising, Partnerships, and Outreach (FPO)
Why did you join Nanchang Project?
I have always done non-profit work, but this was a way for me to continue that while also contributing towards my heritage.
Tell us about yourself! (School/work, family, pets, hobbies, etc.)
I studied business at UT Dallas, and I now work as a Consultant for Ernst & Young. In my free time, I enjoy bouldering, photography, and reading!
What's a fun fact about you that many people don't know?
I just moved into a loft!
What’s the next place on your travel bucket list?
I would love to visit Singapore, or take a cruise to the Arctics.
If you had to eat one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Rice with tomato egg. It's a classic.
Where did you grow up?
Nanjing, China
How do you connect with your Chinese heritage?
Through Nanchang Project!
Has any specific project or contribution during your volunteer work with the Nanchang Project been particularly meaningful or impactful to you?
Building out the FPO team has been extremely rewarding. I've already had the opportunity to onboard 3 new members, and seeing everyone work together to further Nanchang's goal makes it all worth it.
