RETURNING

my first time back “home”
a journey of
self exploration-
did not happen
as it did in my fantasy
i always wondered
what my life
would’ve looked like
if i was “lucky” enough
to experience the culture
first-hand
with a family

with the one day left
my teacher was kind enough
to help me find
one of my first homes
and the people
who cared for me
they even recognized me
my dimples
my smile
that’s what gave it away
that trip
brought me full circle
but i am
still missing a part of me
i guess the thing about circles
is they keep going -
the journey never ends
